My group is interested in studying the underlying mechanisms in initiation and propagation of neurodegenerative diseases with a special focus on Parkinson’s disease and Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis. We follow several lines of investigation: we study whether neuropathology develops due to misfolded proteins and shed light on intracellular processes initiating the release of misfolded proteins. Furthermore, we investigate the role of several inflammatory key players to disease development and propagation.

In addition, we dissect epigenetic fingerprints and try to understand whether non-proteinaccious species especially coding or non-coding RNA molecules might contribute to susceptibility or disease propagation.
